Artists can develop skills at free, one-day Arts Business workshop

The Gladstone Region’s creative and cultural community can develop their skills at a free, one-day intensive submission writing workshop in September.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the workshops would be held at three venues across the region, hosted in conjunction with the Gladstone Region Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) 2017-18.

“This is a great opportunity for Gladstone Region artists to gain helpful information guided by a professional experienced in the field,” Councillor Burnett said.

Councillor Rick Hansen said participants could join Flying Arts Alliance’s Nicole Voevodin-Cash to learn about topics including how to get a project message across and tips on writing a successful submission.

“Participants will be able to readily access valuable details tailored to benefit their future artistic endeavours all within our Gladstone Region,” Cr Hansen said.

The Arts Business workshops will encourage artists to brainstorm, build or polish their project proposal, provide tips on responding to a public art brief and offer clarity about artist agreements.

Discussions will also focus on artist CV’s, fees and insurance encouraging professional and emerging artists to successfully promote themselves and their artwork, price their work and protect their assets.

Bookings are essential with workshops to be held from 10.30am to 4pm at:
Miriam Vale Community Centre on Thursday, September 20,
Calliope Library on Friday, September 21, and
Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum on Saturday, September 22.
