2010 Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition

Posted: 17/10/2009

As part of Australia Day 2010 celebrations, the Gladstone Regional Council is calling for entries in the Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition.

The competition is open to ALL primary school aged students in the Gladstone region, to will help us to celebrate 'what and who makes Australia great'.

The competition encourages students to think about important aspects of our Australian lifestyle and what Australia Day really means to them.

To enter students are asked to draw, paint, or collage an aspect of Australia they believe is iconic, on a sheet of A4 paper.

Inspiration for the artwork can come from individuals (eg. sportsperson), landmarks (eg. Uluru), buildings (eg. Sydney Opera house), animals (eg. kangaroo), ideals(eg. mateship) or anything the student believed is important and meaningful to Australia.

Entries are displayed at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre during January, the Boyne Tannum Community Centre during February and the Gallery/Museum during March 2009. Entries will also be reproduced in a digital format for public display at the Gladstone Regional Council's Australia Day Celebrations, held at the Millennium Esplanade, Tannum Sands Tuesday, 26 January 2010.

The artworks will be judged by Gallery/Museum Director, Pamela Whitlock and the winning artists from each age group will receive some fantastic prizes including their winning entry printed as the 2010 Gladstone Regional Council's Australia Day commemorative postcards and a FAMILY pass to one of 2010's fantastic shows at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre.
