In addition to Gladstone Regional Council's Australia Day Family Fun Day on January 26, Council offers donations to assist regional communities to host Australia Day celebrations in their townships.

Not-for-profit community groups and organisations in the Gladstone Region, who intend to host their own public Australia Day event, are invited to apply annually for funding assistance through Council's Donations Program - Category 3 Regional Event Support Australia Day Event.

In 2018 Council-supported Australia Day regional events will be held on Friday, January 26 at: 

Bororen 
What: Aussie Day barbecue breakfast 
Where: Bororen Hall, Hickman Street, Bororen 
When: 7am-9am

Builyan 
What: Aussie Day barbecue breakfast with a varied menu from $2 to $10. Children’s colouring competition and novelty games, raffle plus entertainment. Music from The Patons and Australian poetry.

Captain Creek 
What: Barbecue including hamburgers, sausages, party pies and pavlova for dessert. There’ll be an  Aussie bush band (Buck Donald), Australiana prizes for games including thong throwing, cane toad race and Best Australian Hat, plus a waterslide and face painting. Cricket will be played if there are enough starters.

Mount Larcom
What: Free barbecue, barefoot bowls, children’s games, face painting, jumping castle.

Rosedale
What: Start your Australia Day with a free Aussie breakfast from 7am-8.30am. Billy kart races will be held from 9am followed by a barbecue lunch at noon. A bar will be open from 10am. There will be lots of Aussie activities including sheep shearing, toad races, 100m dash, thong throwing, egg and spoon races, three-legged races and other novelty events throughout the day. Show your skills on a bucking bull from late afternoon with a vertical bungee on offer.

Seventeen Seventy
What: Sausage sizzle and barefoot bowls to start from noon, music, bar open for drink purchases.

South End, Curtis Island
What: Curtis Ferry Services depart Gladstone 8am; depart South End 6.30pm (cost involved)
Free sausage sizzle, water and softdrink for $2, crab pot throwing classic, cricket, volleyball, tug-of-war, three-legged race and more.

Turkey Beach
What: All members of the community are invited to start Australia Day at a relaxed, free Aussie Day barbecue breakfast in the comfort of the Turkey Beach community centre. Various activities may follow.

Ubobo
What: Aussie Day dinner of corned beef, cabbage, potato and white sauce ($10 for adults, $5 for children), byo drinks, Aussie Day cricket match under lights (after dinner), treasure hunt, prizes. Games for kids including sack races. Thong and horse shoe throwing. RSVP for catering to Rhonda on 4974 1310 by Monday, January 22.

Yarwun
What: Enjoy a free sausage sizzle, activities and some traditional Aussie games. There will also be jumping castles, face painting and balloon animals. Check out the fire truck on display or take part in activities organised by the Yarwun craft club. Cool down with drinks, fruit and ice blocks.
